My Approach
- I am trained, certified in and utilize the Basic Language Skills curriculum
- I provide individual Dyslexia Therapy/ALT to PK-12 and young adults
- I offer 1:1 private sessions, individualized to each student’s needs
- I recommend 3 or more sessions per week to rewire the neural pathways
- Each session is 60 minutes unless determined otherwise
- Sessions are offered in-person at my location, your private school, your location in the North or Central Austin area, and via Zoom.
Dyslexia Therapy is more akin to Speech Therapy than tutoring. Tutoring can make an impact just once a week in a certain subject, but to rewire the neural pathways that are impacted by dyslexia, a minimum of 3x a week is necessary to mitigate the common working memory challenges most dyslexic students have and maintain a consistent pace to complete the curriculum.
Services Offered
- Dyslexia Therapy/Academic Language Therapy (ALT): These terms are used interchangeable in the profession. I use Basic Language Skills, which is an Orton Gillingham explicit, sequential, systematic and multisensory curriculum.
- Dysgraphia: In 2010, as the only district Dyslexia Specialist, I helped create and develop our district Dysgraphia Screener. I trained educators and presented professional development on interventions for and identification of dysgraphia at both the district and regional levels.
- Parent Education/Advocacy: With over 13 years of experience training Dyslexia Teachers in administering and interpreting standardized achievement tests, compiling the data into a report, and facilitating Section 504 Committee meetings, I am well experienced and knowledgeable in providing useable information for parents/guardians in how to understand and navigate public school services for their students with dyslexia and/or dysgraphia. I also offer this service for those in private or homeschool. I also help parents understand and interpret private testing conducted on their child.
- Educator Professional Development: With my 13 years experience developing dyslexia and reading intervention teacher workshops/trainings at the teacher and campus level, dyslexia curriculum instructional coaching and parent trainings, I have the familiarity and skill set to help educators gather the correct data and analyze that specifically to address the five essential components of reading instruction.
- ‘Dyslexia Therapy Dog’ – Muppy is my mini poodle and she loves to be read to, spelled to and cuddled with while learning. With parent approval I will incorporate Muppy in our sessions.
